Our Story
Bethany Church has a rich and enduring history, shaped by God’s steadfast faithfulness and the commitment of His people to proclaim His glory. Our journey began in 1896 with the formation of the Evangelical Friedens Church, marking the first step in a long legacy of faith in our community. In 1905, the Bethany Reformed Church was established, laying the foundation for what would become a vibrant and enduring fellowship.
From 1938 to 1941, a significant milestone occurred as these two congregations merged to form Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church. This union symbolized the unity of believers working together for a common mission—spreading the love and truth of Jesus Christ. Shortly after, in 1953, God’s faithfulness was demonstrated again through the calling of Rev. Victor Vriesen, who shepherded our congregation for an incredible 40 years, providing steadfast leadership and a strong foundation for growth.
By 1960, our church had expanded its facilities with the completion of a parsonage to support the ministry further. Then in 1969, a fireside room was added to the south side of the church, creating more space for fellowship and discipleship opportunities. These additions reflected not only the physical growth of our congregation but also the spiritual growth and desire to deepen our community bonds.
In 1996, we celebrated our acceptance into the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), a step that affirmed our theological convictions and commitment to the Gospel. Then, in 2005, we commemorated another major milestone—the centennial of Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church. This celebration was a powerful reminder of God’s provision and blessings over 100 years of ministry.
In recent years, we have sought to remain faithful to God’s leading, embracing changes as He directs us. Most recently, we stepped into a new chapter by transitioning into a non-denominational church, seeking to remain grounded in the truth of Scripture and the mission to reach others with Christ’s love.
As we approach 2025, we are reminded that our story is ultimately about God’s enduring faithfulness. Through every season of change, He has been our firm foundation. For over 120 years, we have sought to glorify Him through worship, fellowship, and service. We look forward with anticipation to how God will continue to use Bethany Church for His purposes in the years to come.
To God be the glory, great things He has done!
